Review: Joanna is a talented taiwanese newcomer that i just found recently. She've a very soulful voice that will fit jazz, blues and bossanova music perfectly. When i listen to her songs for the first time, i was blown away. She's definitely one of the best in c-pop industry. There comes another saviour to save the rotten chinese music industry, it's hard to see jazz singer in c-pop industry. This debut album consists of 17 songs, some remakes, some original songs. I prefer the songs she sang in english, the lyrics is much more meaningful and her english is awesome(because she grew up in California). It's amazing that she's a 1988er but her voice sounds so mature and so is her taste of music doesn't suits her young age. If you wanna know more about her music, you should visit her own
youtube page, she does covers on her favourite songs and it's totally a different style from this album. Just Joanna and her guitar. She said that she was disappointed of this album because SonyBMG forces her to sing songs that she doesn't like. The songs in this album is indeed pretty marketable but i consider this album as a pretty good album. People says that she's the taiwanese version of Norah Jones and Lisa Ono, but i think she has her own style, it's not really fair to compare her with other artist.
Anyways, back to her album. I know i write long reviews =p. Lost in paradise is one of my favourites from this album, i love the melody VERY much. Let's start from here is a soothing ballad that's very easy-listening. Most of the songs in this album are pretty easy-listening. The best mistake i've ever made is just so beautiful, i love the tinge of soft-rock feeling to it. It's perfect with her soulful voice, i love the lyrics. This album also consists of Joanna's creations, "Bada Bada", "Lost Taipei" and "Stages of Flying". I like stages of flying the best out of her 3 creations. "For no reason" is a creation of her and her father, Wang Zhi Ping, a remarkable music maker in the chinese industry, but Jo doesn't like people relating her career to her father. "I love you" is an english remake of David Tao's song "Love is easy愛很簡單", as a big fan of david tao, i admit that this remake is very impressive. It has that Joanna style in it and it gives me a brand new feeling towards this song. This song was one of the classics from David Tao which i really love, she deepen my love towards this song. Don't miss out this amazing album. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
