14th-Mar-2009 03:51 am - [Discography] Oldfish (3 Albums)

Oldfish is a band which interestingly only consist of one member by the name of Soda. This guy pretty much do everything, the vocals, composing, editing, producing and almost everything else. Oldfish sounds like Postino, lounge, electronica, folk rock mixed together creating soothing music with liveliness in their sound.
I fell in love with them after listening to their 3rd album, i was intrigued by their band name "oldfish", it sounds quirky and very "indie", they're one of the few bands that i don't get tired of even by repeating their songs for many many times. My favorite album from them is their 3rd album and i think they're improving as they release a new album. I'm sharing my closet obsession to you all, hope you guys enjoy this awesome band as much as me.

25th-Jan-2009 11:38 pm - [discography] Nicky Lee (4 albums)

Nicky Lee is one of my favorite mando-pop artists beside Khalil Fong, David Tao and Elva Hsiao. I remembered him from Machi as Xiao Pang Zi, he was fat during his Machi days but he was known for his strong vocals. I love his voice and his songs are awesome. He's a American-Korean and i would love to hear him singing Korean one day or maybe he did? His music style is r&b, ballad and the usual pop. But his songs are pretty addictive and i owned his CDs, it just that i lost them but good thing i got some of them in my computer.
My personal favorites are his first and second album. I'm not that impressed by his latest releases but they're enjoyable nonetheless, they're just not as strong as his previous albums but his vocals are still great as usual.

15th-Jan-2009 12:10 am - [discography] Cheer Chen (4 Albums)

Cheer Chen is a well known taiwanese indie singer-songwriter which i think many indie lovers are familliar with too.
Her soft, child-like voice is one of her unique-ness, i always find her lyrics fascinating, the words she use are simple and you can say "quirky at times" but when they click together with the melody, it matches well. What i love about her songs are that they're very soothing and they're a good listen when i feel like sitting down and relaxing. Her voice is what makes her songs feel so "warm".
Her music style is soft-rock, indie-rock, folk, acoustic and maybe a little bit of bossa like in "小塵埃"?
She really looks good with her guitar and an artist that will make you yell out "Encore!!" if you watch her live. She's my crush since a few years ago when i heard the songs from her album "A Fabulous Adventure" and i got that album of her<33 Love it so much. I respect her for her efforts in releasing independent records.

Mocca... you probably heard this band before or at least you've heard one of their songs from CFs and korean variety shows' BGM. Don't be surprise to find out that this wonderful band is from Indonesia and me, as an Indonesian is proud of them to be popular internationally.

This band consists of 4 people, Arina(vocalist and flute), Riko (guitar), Toma (bass) and Indra (drum). Arina sings in english so you'll be able to understand what's the song is about and she has a clear soothing voice, her voice reminds me of "The Melody"'s vocalists. What i love about this band is... everything. Their music style, lyrics, band members and their composing skills! Their music style are swing jazz, 70's retro, rock, waltz and bossanova. A colorful mixture!! I love their songs, they always make me happy. Actually i think their songs should be the soundtrack for Coffee Prince!!!

If you're wondering what CFs and korean variety shows they're featured in, it's WGM(We got married), she's olive series(celebrities photoshoot video) and LG CFs which starred Jung Ryeo Won. (Click the links to watch) They recently performed in Korea in GMF festival for 60min which was held in a park which is a very unique concept. Also, they released a new single last month which titled "Listen to me".

I hardly listen to Indonesian music but recently, i tried a few and was surprised to find some really good artists which of course, their music style is jazz/ soul/ bossanova, the music genres that i love. Mocca is a band which i had known a few years ago when i caught their music video in MTV while i was having a vacation in Indonesia, they gave me a strong first impression and later, became one of my favorite bands. Anyways, let's get this started. (Samples are available - click mp3 links)

Carrchy is an indie band from mainland China, consists of a female vocalist and a male producer, the female vocalist Keli(顆粒) has a soothing soft voice that reminds me of Faye Wong and she's the one who composed the songs in their album. Although their music is mostly electronica but their electronica is not as loud as like the usual market style but instead, they're very easy-listening. Their music is a mixture of the traditional chinese, electronica, indie with a bit of jazz. I got their first album from [info]ayulyn's indie post and i love them so i checked on them and got their latest single "行走的蜜月". In this single, they collaborated with the ex vocalist of Natural Curl(自然卷) for the song "世界末日上的某個角落(A corner in the end of the world)" and it didn't disappoint. The song "貓咪(cat)" from the single have a tinge of bossanova feeling to it and it's very soothing. Anyway, check them out.
